While many manufacturers make their big announcements at CES, they always save some serious news for the nearly 10,000 attendees at PMA. This year was no exception as big names in imaging like Nikon, Fujifilm, Sigma, Olympus, Panasonic, and Samsung all rolled out new products and technology for display at PMA 2010.
Sony made a big splash early on at PMA, announcing at thier press conference, scheduled an hour before the PMA show floor opened, a new ultra-compact interchangeable lens camera concept similar to the Micro Four Thirds standard. As DCR's Allison Johnson, who covered the event, reported, "Behind the new concept is a new APS sized sensor, named appropriately enough, the Exmor APS HD MOS sensor. It will outsize its Micro Four Thirds competitors and offer 1080p HD AVCHD video recording. Along with the new sensor, Sony has committed to developing three types of new compact lenses to match the small form factor of the new system." PMA allows the TG and DCR editors to get their hands on the latest and greatest tech. With a PMA crowd smaller than the masses that descend on CES, there are opportunities to really dig in and test out products.
Digital camera accessory vendors also set up shop at PMA, trying to woo imaging professionals and enthusiasts with serious shutterbug gear, as detailed by DCR editors in, PMA 2010: Wrap-Up.
Digital cameras were not the only products on display at PMA. HP and others (including Batman!) were on hand showcasing the latest in printing technology. PrinterComparison.com was there to report, PMA 2010 round-up: HP signals for Batman.
