AMC Networks today announced the launch of Yeah!, a new streaming movie rental service that adds bonus content to its collection of films.
The company says that it is curating each film on Yeah! with “400-500 individual pieces of original content” such as trivia questions, “never-before seen” interviews with cast and crew and Pop-Up Video-esque factoids.
Think as a way for users to access the kind of commentary tracks and similar extra info usually reserved for physical media like DVDs — without owning the film, at least. Lisa Judson, Yeah!’s general manager, says that “a team of Emmy Award winning producers” spends two months researching content for each curated film.
14 films are available for rent with the bonus content thus far, including Reservoir Dogs, The Terminator, Nightmare on Elm Street and Clerks. AMC says that it will add more films to the curated collection on a weekly basis, although a wide variety of films can be rented without the extras as well.
Yeah! is charging $4.99 for a 48-hour rental of any curated movie, with non-curated flicks priced between $1.99 and $3.99. It’s also worth noting that a Facebook login is mandatory for the time being, though Yeah! says that it is working on a fix for the future. The service is only available on PC at the moment, but AMC says that an iPad app is in the works for sometime this summer. More can be checked out at the source link below.
