For the first time since its release in 2009, Angry Birds is free to download in the Apple App store.

The popular mobile game was previously priced at $0.99 for the iPhone version and $2.99 for the iPad HD version. Previous free versions, which limited users to just a few levels of play, are no longer available in the App Store.

\"AngryThe game is centered on the premise that the birds are angry because the green pigs have stolen their eggs and thus the birds resolve to attack the pigs’ castles to get revenge, which is where the game\’s players come in.

According to the app\’s iTunes page, it is the #1 paid iPhone app in over 60 countries, and the #1 paid iPhone game in \”more countries than we can count.\”

It’s unknown at this time whether this a limited-time offer, or if Angry Birds will be free permanently.
