Just a few days after introducing the quirky Transformer AiO, Asus today announced that it is launching a more traditional Windows 8 laptop: the Asus VivoBook S500.
Originally announced last fall, the VivoBook S500 sports a 15.6-inch HD (1366 x 768 resolution) touchscreen, a 1.7 GHz Core i5 processor, Intel GMA HD graphics, 6 GB of DDR3 RAM and 500 GB of hard drive stoage. Asus is also touting the VivoBook’s “2-second instant on” time when awaking from sleep mode, as well as its included 32 GB of Asus WebStorage cloud storage, among other features.
The 21mm-thin Ultrabook can be had across North America today for the starting price of $699, though for that aggressive number users should expect a more budget-friendly spec sheet. A more complete picture of said spec sheet still isn’t clear, but TG has reached out to Asus for clarification and will update if and when more info is given.
Update: Asus has listed more detailed specs for the VivoBook S500 over on its website. The company also announced the S550, which adds an optical drive and gives the option of a Core i3, i5 or i7 CPU for $749. TG has updated the contents of the original article accordingly.
