Corning Incorporated announced in a press release yesterday afternoon that it will unveil its newest product, Gorilla Glass 3, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week.
Gorilla Glass 3 is the next generation of the company\’s high durability glass, largely used for smartphones and tablets. According to the press release, this installment is a \”new glass composition with durability enhancements.\” Full product details will be announced on Monday, Jan. 7.
Wendell P. Weeks, Corning chairman, chief executive officer and president, said in the press release that the product has been \”designed to enhance and extend the capabilities of consumers\’ favorite devices.\”
Corning will present \”demonstrations of the toughness of Gorilla Glass 3\” in the company\’s booth at CES. The booth will also show off the glass in larger formats, which can be used for multi-touch displays for education and entertainment purposes among others.
The company will also unveil Optical Cables by Corning, fiber-based, device-to-device connectivity solutions that will extend the data transmission range past that of copper-based cables. The connectivity and flexibility of the cables will be demonstrated in the Corning booth at CES.
