Disney Turns Fans Into Stormtroopers with 3D Printing
Who wouldn’t want to be immortalized in the form of a personal action figure modeled after Star Wars cannon fodder? Now, thanks to 3D Printing and Disney, average Joes and Janes can have their very own personal Stormtrooper figurines.
During Star Wars Weekends at Walt Disney World, which runs every weekend from May 17 to June 9, visitors can purchase a 3D-printed, 7.5-inch tall Stormtrooper figurine of themselves for $99.95 each.
Star Wars fans looking to have a figurine made get their face scanned by a high-resolution single-shot 3D face scanner, which takes about 10 minutes. There’s no force or instant gratification here, though. Disney sends the image off to an off-site 3D printer (maybe in a galaxy far, far away) and the figurine will be shipped to a customer at home, some seven to eight weeks later.
