Iberia Airlines has become the first airline to offer printable baggage tags. Through the service MyBagTag, passengers will be able to print their luggage tags with their boarding passes before heading to the airport.
Users can weigh their baggage on at home, check in to their flight online, skip the check in lines once arriving at the airport, and drop their luggage off in a designated area. The luggage tags include the user’s boarding pass number, helping reduce luggage mishaps and lost baggage.
Currently the service is only available for direct domestic flights in Spain and the Iberian. However, the company plans to extend MyBagTag to European, overseas, and connecting flights in the near future.
To those that prefer online or self-service check in, the move makes perfect sense, as the “check baggage” line can be longer than the full-service check-in counter line, which completely eliminates a major advantage to checking in early or by oneself.
