Apple might be working on two iPhone models that will feature a 4.7-inch and 5.7-inch screen, with a lower price point and in a range of colors, according to a report from Reuters.
Four people with knowledge of the alleged plans state that the larger smartphones could hit the market within the next year. It would not come as much of a surprise considering Samsung, one of Apple\’s biggest competitors, recently announced a smaller version of its popular Galaxy S4 with a screen size that is still larger than the iPhone 5. The Galaxy S4 Mini will feature a screen just under 4.5-inches with mostly the same features as its flagship companion.
Reuters notes that Apple is potentially attempting to enter the “phablet” market, which has increased in popularity with users that are interested in larger screens, but in smartphone format. The 4-inch screen of the iPhone 5 was a big departure from the classic 3.5-inch screens of past iPhone models, but the competition has proven consumers want more options when it comes to handsets. The report states that the cheaper iPhone models could run for as low as $99 in the US with five or six different color options, distinguishing it from the higher-priced iPhone 5.
