The Microsoft Surface Pro 2 and Surface 2 are now available for purchase from Microsoft retail stores, Staples, and Best Buy, among other retail locations. Microsoft held midnight launch events at multiple retail locations last night, allowing users to get their hands on the new tablets as soon as possible.
The Surface Pro 2 and Surface 2 were announced last month as updates to the Microsoft Surface Pro and Surface RT tablets, respectively. The updated devices feature internal improvements in terms of hardware, speed, and display quality. In terms of overall design, the devices now boast better viewing angles for users, but otherwise remain mostly unchanged.
The Surface 2 features the Windows RT operating system, which is the lightweight version of Windows 8 designed to run on ARM mobile processors. Upgrades to the device include a faster processor, a USB 3.0 port, and a higher resolution display. Prices on the Surface 2 start at $449 for a 32GB model, not including a Touch Cover.
The Surface Pro 2 features a longer battery life compared to the original, a USB 3.0 port, Core i5 processor, and the full version of Windows 8.1. It starts at $899 for the 64GB model including the stylus, but not any keyboard cover.
