Smartphones always seems to die at the most inopportune times. When the flashing dead battery sign hits the screen right as an important e-mail is sent or before a perfect picture is snapped, it would be handy to have an instant charge at hand. Nokia has just announced a new product that may make that possible for Lumia and Asha 501 users.
The DC-18 charger is a universal portable USB charger that’s small enough, at 57x57x14.9mm to have on hand for a quick charge when a user’s Lumia smartphone needs a little extra juice. The device houses a 1,720 mAh capacity battery, which will get most users a single full charge.
On the front of the DC-18 charger is a battery indicator light, which lights up when the retractable microUSB cable is pulled from the top of the device and alerts users to its current charge level. While the actual cord coils back into the device, the microUSB is constantly exposed, so users will want to be careful where they store it.
Nokia hasn’t announced any pricing or availability yet, but users will be happy to know they will be able to get the DC-18 in white, yellow, magenta and Lumia and Asha 501 matching cyan, otherwise known as blue.
