Opera Introduces Coast, a Basic Browser for iPad

Opera has launched Coast, a web browser made specifically for the iPad. Coast is intended to give iOS tablet users a faster, more intuitive, and responsive web browsing experience.

Coast was announced at TechCrunch Disrupt and is toted by the company as the “browser that should have come with iPad.”

Opera aims to alleviate any iPad browser headaches, perhaps the result of Safari originally being developed for the smaller-screen iPhone, with a bare-bones browser that simplifies the experience for iPad users by including only necessary elements and forgoing the typical URL bar and buttons. Users will be able to use swipe gestures to navigate between pages and reload webpages. A options and features bar at the bottom of the display can be prompted, and it includes tabs, a search bar, history, bookmarks, and more. Opera has assured customers that although they are offering this basic browser, it includes Web of Trust, a browser extension that notifies users of possible security threats.

Coast is available for iOS users to download from the App Store today.
