Kanex announced the meDrive, a file server that turns USB storage into a network drive that can be accessed from iOS and desktop devices, at CES 2013 on Tuesday.
The device, which works as a private cloud, is compatible with iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch or Mac + PC and allows users the ability to use external USB storage to create their own local cloud for easy access or sharing.
Customers can download the free Kanex meDrive app in the Apple App Store to allow for iOS file management. Users can also hot-swap in other USB storage drives to expand storage needs, according to a press release issued by the company. Users can also connect and manage files through OS X Finer and Windows Explorer.
The server has built in WebDAV and Bonjour support which allows users the ability to access and share Apple iWork files such as Keynote, Pages and Numbers, Kanex President Kelvin Yan said in the release.
The meDrive is available now at leading retail and online retailers and is priced at $99 USD at the time of this writing with no extra service fees.
