According to a Verizon official, the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be the first smartphone to include support for Verizon’s newest network upgrade, its AWS frequency.
Mike Haberman, Verizon’s vice president of network support told Bloomberg the Galaxy S4 will work on the Advanced Wireless Service (AWS) spectrum, which is touted to double data speeds. According to Haberman, the support will not be available at launch, but users can download a software upgrade to connect to the AWS frequency.
The AWS service, which Verizon is employing to help bolster the long-term health of its 4G LTE network, is scheduled to launch first in major cities like New York in the coming months. Verizon will add more devices that support the higher speeds in the future, but the Galaxy S4 is the only supported device currently on sale.
