Square has taken another step in its quest to make mobile payments the new norm by today announcing its ‘Business in a Box’ package.
Available for order from Square now, the Business in a Box can essentially turn an iPad into a makeshift wireless cash register. It bundles together two Square Card Readers for transactions, a cash drawer, an iPad stand and an optional receipt printer. All of those can connect to the Square Register mobile payment platform, which allows users to accept wireless payments and offers a set of analytics tools as well.
Without the optional receipt printer, the Business in a Box costs $300. Add in the printer and the price jumps up to $600. Of course, anyone who wants to use the package will have to already own an iPad. And just as a reminder, Square charges a 2.75 percent fee per every swipe made in its Readers.
Square’s aim here, as it usually claims, is to further its appeal towards small-to-medium sized businesses (think cafes, corner shops, etc.) by making payments quicker and easier. Square isn’t the first company to put together a package of this sort, but the Business in a Box is still something that could be of use to SMBs (or cash register enthusiasts) looking to push their payment system into the wireless age.
