Electronic Arts has officially confirmed The Sims 4, the next installment in the longstanding life simulation franchise. It’ll arrive on PC and Mac sometime in 2014. The Sims Studio, creators of The Sims 3 and its many expansion packs, will be behind the development of the game once again.
And, well, that’s about all there is to say for now. EA made the announcement via a brief blog post, noting that more specific details will be provided in a separate post later today. TG has reached out to EA for further comment either way, and will update this post once more details become available.
Update: As promised, EA has provided a few more details in a second post published earlier today. Specifics are still unfortunately scarce, but the most welcome news for many players will likely be EA\’s note that The Sims 4 will be a \”single-player offline experience.\” Given the less-than-stellar launch of the always-online SimCity this past March, it\’s not surprising to hear EA go out of their way to note such a detail.
Other than that, EA says The Sims 4 \”encourages players to personalize their world with new and intuitive tools while offering them the ability to effortlessly share their creativity with friends and fans.\” The publisher encouraged those interested in the game to check out its official website as well.
