Keeping track of personal fitness goals is hard enough for humans, but what about a dog\’s activity levels? The creators of FitBark want to help pet owners ensure their dogs are living life to the fullest and keeping active by creating a Bluetooth-enabled device that attaches to a dog’s collar.
Appropriately dubbed FitBark, the small bone-shaped dongle will help owners ensure their dog is keeping active and happy; and will help confirm the dogwalker is actually doing his or her job. The smartphone app will calculate a daily goal for the dog and it will factor in one hour of moderately intense physical activity.
With the compatible app for iOS devices, pet owners can review data trends, ensure dogs are meeting goals, and check in on their pet while at work or away from home. FitBark will simplify the data by having the dog’s daily goal represented as a percentile, and throughout the day, owners are able to track how closer their pets are to hitting that 100 percent goal. The background color of the app will gradually shifting from red, representing a low percentage, to green, which means the goal was achieved.
Battery life on the FitBark device is advertised as lasting up to 10 days, depending on the dog’s activity and the usage on the owner’s behalf. The FitBark device will weigh .165 pounds, with a height of 4.33-inches, width of 3.94-inches, and a depth of 2.83-inches; so it won\’t be too obtrusive on a dog collar. The creators state that it has been tested on dogs that weigh as little as 6 pounds, but that they feel it will work for dogs even smaller than that.
FitBark is currently gaining funding on Kickstarter, and hopes to reach its goal of $100,000 by May 31.
