Tumblr users woke up to the news that Yahoo had purchased the popular micro-blogging service for a reported $1.1 billion dollars. Aware of the apprehension from Tumblr users, Yahoo assured its new users that it wouldn\’t “screw it up.”
While Tumblr CEO David Karp has also tried to sell users on the fact that nothing will change about the site, some are not buying it. WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg announced he saw an influx in imported blog posts from Tumblr over to the WordPress platform. On any given day, WordPress will see around 400 to 600 posts ported over, but after the acquisition announcement by Yahoo, it saw 72,000 posts imported from Tumblr. However, out of the average 75 million daily blog posts on Tumblr, 72,000 might not be much to worry about.
Yahoo hopes to boost its social media cred with Tumblr, accessing the younger demographic that makes up for most of the Tumblr\’s users. The only problem is that Tumblr hasn\’t perfected a way to bring in revenue and users are weary of what Yahoo will do to change that.
