Verizon announced on Tuesday that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will support the carrier’s Advanced Wireless Services network, and now Verizon has confirmed a total of seven devices will support AWS when it launches later this year.
In terms of smartphones, the Nokia Lumia 928 and BlackBerry Q10 will support AWS, in addition to the Samsung Galaxy S4. Two 10-inch Samsung tablets will also be supported along with two Jetpack mobile hotspots and a USB antenna. Verizon has not given specific information on which specific tablets, hotspots and USB antenna will be supported.
The seven announced devices will be able to run on the AWS network as soon as it launches later this year, although previous reports indicate a software update will be needed, at least for the Samsung Galaxy S4. Additionally, Verizon said “most” of its 4G LTE devices going forward will be AWS-capable.
The AWS network is based on Band 4 and runs on airwaves Verizon recently purchased from cable companies. It is said the AWS network will double data speeds.
