Quick Take

The Canon Pixma MG3120 is a budget friendly all-in-one inkjet with the added bonuses of photo printing and wireless connectivity.

The Canon Pixma MG3120 is marketed as a simple and budget-friendly printer that can print, scan, and copy. Reviewers at PrinterComparison appreciated the Pixma MG3120\’s easy set up; taking testers only 20 minutes to complete.  It features wireless connectivity, the ability to print photos, and a scanner that can accommodate 8.5×11.7-inch documents; all features that make it a versatile printer for the home.

\"CanonCanon advertises that the Pixma MC3120 has printing speeds of 9.2 ipm for black and white, 5 ipm for color prints, and 44 seconds for a border-less 4×6 inch photo. PC recorded a speed of 9 ipm when printing in black and white, but the ipm did not live up to the advertised speed for color documents. To print 40 pages in color, it took a total of 12 minutes in testing, with a recorded average speed of 3 ipm. When printing photographs, PC recorded 59 seconds to print a standard quality 4×6 photo and 1 minute 42 seconds to print a high quality 4×6 photo.

When it came to photo quality, PC found the quality to be \”superb\” and that \”when compared with a more expensive Canon Pixma photo printing AIOs, you can barely notice a difference\”. Reviewers noted the contrast was \”impressive\” and that although the system uses a dual ink system instead of a five ink system, the prints appeared professional.

Despite the great photo quality, the ink capacity on this device leaves much to be desired. Using a 3:1 ration of black to color pages printed, PC exhausted the printers ink cartridges after 240. However, high capacity ink cartridges are available for purchase, which could help extend time between buying new cartridges.

With its price tag of $80, at the time of review, the Canon Pixma MG3120 is a functional budget friendly printer for the home. Anyone interested in a printer with more features and capabilities other than photos and basic printing, you may want to look at another model If you are in the market for a reliable printer that can handle basic print jobs and photo printing at a budget-friendly price, the Pixma MG3120 will be a great choice.
