Quick Take

The Samsung CLX-4195fw is an easy to use multifunction color laser printer targeted at small and medium sized businesses.

The Samsung CLX-4195fw is part of the company’s new line of A3 and A4 printers and is aimed at small and medium sized businesses. Measuring in at 17 x 17 x 18-inches, the machine fits easily on a desktop and offers a 50-sheet ADF, front-side USB port and a control panel with a 4.3-inch touchscreen, alphanumeric keypad and additional quick keys. The printer retails for over $600, but PrinterComparison found it on sale for $499.99 at the time of the review.

Samsung CLX-4195fwThe machine can print, scan or fax documents up to 8.5 x 14-inches in size. The CLX-4195fw features four toner cartridges in a front-side drawer and uses new refined polymerized toner to reduce energy costs. PC found the device’s Quick Installation Guide to be easy to use and included Samsung Easy Print Manager with additional options to install Easy Color Manager and AnyWeb Print. PC noted how easy to use the Easy Print Manager is and noted multiple printing and scanning options. The Scan Assistant provides users with five different ways to scan in and share content and the SNS Upload allows users to scan items directly to Facebook, Flickr, Picasa, Google or Twitter. PC also noted the scanner’s ability to scan text documents and automatically convert them to files that can be read on eReaders. Users with smartphones or tablets can directly print from or scan to their devices via the Samsung Mobile Print app.

PC found the print speed to be inconsistent. While the printer occasionally hit the 19 pages per minute Samsung advertises, PC found the average speed to be around 16 ppm and noted the inconsistency could stem from the wireless connection to the device.  PC saw no difference in print speed between black and white and color print jobs and noted the print quality to be great and was impressed with the ability to adjust the color settings with the East Color Manager program. One thing buyers may want to be aware of is the Samsung CLX-4195fw’s inability to automatically duplex, which PC thought should be a standard feature on a machine at this price. PC experienced no paper jams during testing, but was unable to cancel a print job using the control panel.

Overall, PC found the Samsung CLX-4195fw to be easy to use with well laid out programs and a high print quality, however was disappointed with the lack of automatic duplexing.  In the end, PC came away with “positive feelings about the CLX-4195fw’s performance” and noted “it’s definitely worth considering for your small or medium sized business.”
