The Samsung ML-5512nd is a heavy duty printer designed for businesses that need high volume printing options. It’s a monochrome printer and is priced at $1,200 at the time of the review. The printer is heavy and businesses will need to find a strong surface to place it in. It has dimensions of 18 x 17 x 21 inches.

\"SamsungThe printer comes with either two or four additional cassettes and a 2,000-sheet high capacity feeder caster base, making the device’s maximum paper capacity 3,000. Users can also elect for a model with a stapler or four slot mailbox. The printer has a 1,000 sheet output tray on the top of the device with a control panel also on the top, featuring a four line LCD, four directional navigation wheel, alphanumeric keypad and five quick keys. The ML-5512nd uses a two piece consumable set with a toner cartridge and imaging unit. Users can purchase toner in standard, high or extra high capacity. Accessible via the front of the printer is a 100-sheet multipurpose tray and 520-sheet paper cassette. There is also a front side USB port. The printer runs on a 700MHz dual core processor and includes 256MB of internal memory.

PrinterComparison noted the ML-5512nd is “a breeze to set up.\” It comes with a quick install guide that takes users through all five installation steps. PC noted the install wizard worked quickly and required almost no human interaction. PC also found that once installed the ML-5512nd is also easy to navigate. Business that set up the printer over a network can access the SyncThru Web Service, which allows employees and admins to adjust the settings from their desktop. The default settings are set to automatic duplexing.

When it came to print speed, PC found an average speed of 55 prints per minute (ppm) in normal mode with the first page printing in eight seconds from ready or light sleep mode. When the printer was in deep sleep mode, it took 30 seconds for the first page to print. Users are able to turn on toner saver mode for draft prints, and there is minimal difference in quality and no difference in speed while in this mode. PC encountered no paper jams during testing. However, PC did note the ML-5512nd is an “energy guzzler,” topping out at 1300W. When warming up, the device spiked at over 1000W. Samsung does offer customers several eco-friendly options.

Overall, PC called the Samsung ML-5512nd “a beast, simply put.” The device is large and heavy, but offers equivalent performance. PC was impressed with the print quality and speeds and the high volume of printing its able to handle. The ML-5512nd is an optimal printer for businesses that need high volume printing with no fuss.
