Quick Take

SmugMug is a great tool for anyone looking to quickly set up a website to sell professional photos, and there aren't many downsides to the service.

SmugMug, an image hosting and storage site aimed at photographers, has recently received a major overhaul. The new design features a drastically different interface as well as unlimited storage. The two combined make the new SmugMug an attractive option for many avid photographers, despite not offering any free image hosting packages.

\"smugmugSmugMug offers 24 design templates to choose from and DigitalCameraReview notes they are great for simple actions like creating a website to post images quickly. But SmugMug also offers extensive customization options which allow users to “design the photo website of your dreams.” SmugMug also automatically resizes a user\’s site for optimal viewing no matter what device or screen size it’s being viewed on. It also offers increased privacy and control over images. Additionally, DCR found the new service makes uploading both images and videos a breeze while organizing and sharing has also been simplified. The company has also thrown in 24/7 human support.

The company offers four different hosting packages, ranging from $40 a year for the basic package to $300 for the business package. Ads are never displayed on SmugMug sites, which DCR said is another plus for business users. Users looking to sell their images online will want to look at the two higher-priced options, as they allow users to set their own pricing and sell photographs. DCR noted, “you get more than what you pay for” with SmugMug, but users still have to pay something.  In the end, DCR found that users who don’t mind spending some money will have a hard time finding another service that gives as much bang for the buck.
